The Healthway Sport Sponsorship Program seeks to play a key role in the achievement of Healthway’s vision of a healthier Western Australia. By working with community organisations and others involved in the sport and active recreation areas there is a significant opportunity to change behaviours and environments to improve health.
The program provides sponsorship support for a wide range of organisations for programs or initiatives where increasing physical activity is the primary focus, or for sporting events that have a wide audience reach. In particular the Sport Sponsorship Program seeks to encourage and support a broad range of physical activity initiatives in order to get more of the community more active more often. In return, the activities provide opportunities for the promotion of health messages and the creation of healthy environments for participants, volunteers and spectators.
A further priority for the Sports Sponsorship Program is to support activities which provide participation opportunities for Healthway’s priority population groups, which include children and youth, Indigenous groups and rural and remote communities across Western Australia. Approximately 80% of the Sport Sponsorship Program budget is allocated to projects where participation is the major focus with the remaining 20% to events with a wide audience reach.
Eligibility
Any group that organises, encourages, participates in or makes a contribution to any form of lawful recreational activity involving playing a game or organised non-competitive activities, which usually involve physical activity or the encouragement of physical fitness is eligible to apply.
Sport Sponsorship Program Objectives
- To reach and engage with groups that are disadvantaged due to geographic, social or economic factors;
- To raise awareness and increase positive attitudes towards health issues;
- To create health environments; and
- To build community connectedness and improve health through increased access, involvement and active participation in sport and recreation.
